Black Art School Europe is an international convening dedicated to the study and advancement of Black artistic and intellectual practices across Europe and the global diaspora.

Hosted in Amsterdam, in partnership with Metro54, the program brings together artists, scholars, curators, filmmakers, and cultural organizers for an intensive week of seminars, workshops, screenings, and public conversations.

Following a successful inaugural gathering, the 2026 edition marks the second year of the program, expanding its role as a platform for transnational dialogue and collaboration.

Program Themes

The 2026 summer school explores three interconnected areas.

Black Artistic Practice

Contemporary visual art, film, performance, and curatorial work across the diaspora.

Black Pedagogies

Approaches to teaching, knowledge production, and collective learning grounded in Black intellectual traditions.

Black Futures

Speculative and creative approaches to imagining new cultural and institutional possibilities.

Program Activities

Participants engage in a range of program formats.

Funding and Support

Black Art School Europe seeks to develop into a sustained platform for Black artistic and intellectual exchange in Europe.

The projected budget for the 2026 program supports:

  • artist and speaker honoraria

  • venue and production costs

  • public events

  • program coordination

Support is currently being sought to sustain the 2026 edition and help establish the program as an ongoing annual initiative.
