WHAT IS THE JUNETEENTH INSTITUTE?
The Juneteenth Institute is an intimate convening on Black cultural futures, visual culture, ethics, and public life.
Produced by Visual Dynamics Labs (VDL) and The Space for Creative Black Imagination, the Institute brings together artists, scholars, curators, cultural organizers, writers, and institutional leaders for two days of dialogue, strategic exchange, and relationship building in advance of Juneteenth observances across the United States.
Presented in advance of Juneteenth observances across the United States, the Institute operates as a salon-style gathering rather than a traditional conference — prioritizing thoughtful engagement, interdisciplinary collaboration, and long-term cultural impact.
The 2026 edition expands the Institute into a flagship platform within the broader Visual Dynamics Labs ecosystem.

A focused, small-group intensive for selected participants working across:
visual culture and critical theory
curatorial and institutional practice
moving image and documentation
The lab is designed as a site of research, exchange, and production.

A public-facing program featuring:
panel conversations
screenings and presentations
open dialogue with participants and invited speakers
